Oyo declares Thursday work-free for 2026 Isese day

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared Thursday, August 20 as a work-free day to commemorate Isese Day. Isese Day is a celebration of the Yoruba people's cultural and traditional heritage. This decision was announced in a memo by Prof. Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the State Government, according to a statement released by Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Governor's Special Adviser (Media).

The Governor's declaration extends his congratulations to adherents of African Traditional Religion in Oyo State, Nigeria, and elsewhere, wishing them a successful and spiritually enriching celebration. Governor Makinde reiterated his administration's dedication to equality across all religions, thanking traditional worshippers for their support over the past seven years.

The Governor believes the work-free day will allow workers and residents to fully engage in the celebration of the state's cultural heritage and pray for Oyo State and the nation's peace, unity, and stability. The introduction of Isese Day under Governor Makinde's administration is part of his vision to honor traditional religion and harness cultural tourism as a means of economic growth.
