Data from the National Observatory of Agriculture show a trade surplus in Tunisia’s food sector, driven especially by a 43.4% increase in olive oil exports this year. The post Olive oil exports boost Tunisia’s agriculture appeared first on ANBA News Agency .

Tunisia's food trade surplus expanded to TND 1.06 billion (USD 344.1 million) between January and July, marking a 22.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025, reveals data from the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri) released on Wednesday (19). The surge in olive oil exports, totaling TND 3.59 billion (USD 1.2 billion), contributed significantly to this growth, rising by 43.4% from the same period in 2025.

Olive oil emerged as Tunisia's primary food export, making up 63.3% of total food exports. Onagri highlighted a 47.9% rise in export volume as the key driver behind the sales increase, which also lifted revenue. However, the price of olive oil dropped by 3% to TND 12.47 (USD 4.27) per kilogram. Dates and seafood were the next leading exports, contributing 9.1% and 5.8% to the total, respectively.

While Tunisia's agribusiness sector performed well in the first seven months of the year, it was not sufficient to bridge the country's overall trade deficit. The deficit widened by 25.7% to TND 14.9 billion (USD 5.1 billion).
