Nilai university’s CFO charged with RM6.56mil CBT

Noraini Aripin, the CFO of the Elmu Higher Education Group, appeared in the Seremban sessions court today, pleading not guilty to a criminal breach of trust charge. She is accused of misusing RM6.56 million in company funds, allegedly by making payments for purposes other than the payment of ad valorem duty to the Inland Revenue Board, according to Bernama.

The alleged offence took place at the university's office between September 2025 and April 2026. If convicted, Noraini faces up to 20 years in prison, whipping, and a fine under Section 409 of the Penal Code.

During the hearing, Deputy public prosecutor Syairah Aqilah Khalil requested a higher bail amount of RM100,000, along with Noraini surrendering her passport and reporting to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission monthly. However, defence lawyer Kelvin Ong argued for a lower bail of RM50,000, citing Noraini's status as a mother of five and her current treatment for stage-three breast cancer.

He further mentioned that her monthly income is RM15,000. The judge, M Kunasundary, set bail at RM80,000, accepting the prosecution's requests, and set Sept 21 for the next mention.
