New ‘Wildwood’ Trailer Is an Emotional Trip Into a Fantasy World

Fathom Entertainment unveils a captivating new trailer for “Wildwood,” the latest animated fantasy epic from LAIKA, the Portland-based studio known for “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.” Based on the novels by Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy, the film follows the journey of a young girl named Prue (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), whose baby brother is taken by crows.

Joined by her clumsy friend Curtis (Jacob Tremblay), Prue ventures into the enchanted woods to rescue her sibling, encountering a myriad of mystical beings along the way. Among the unforgettable characters is a colossal golden eagle named the General, voiced by the renowned Angela Bassett. The film’s ensemble cast also features Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, and Tom Waits.

Directed by Travis Knight, known for his work on “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “Masters of the Universe,” alongside writer Chris Butler, “Wildwood” boasts a stellar voice cast and legendary cinematography by Caleb Deschanel. The film is scheduled for release on October 23, marking LAIKA’s first feature since 2019’s “Missing Link.”
