Kathmandu witnessed a heartwarming scene as Nepal's Women, Children and Senior Citizens Affairs Minister Sita Badi breastfed a 17-day-old baby rescued from a shelter home, drawing widespread admiration for her compassion. The emotional moment unfolded after authorities rescued around 20 infants and toddlers from Bal Mandir, a dilapidated shelter home in Kathmandu's Naxal area, where the children were allegedly living in deplorable conditions.

Authorities rescued the children, aged between 15 days and two years, after learning about their plight via a social media post. Badi, who had visited the shelter home without prior notice, ordered officials to remove the children and assessed their condition with a medical team. The young girl, who was reportedly hungry but had no milk or food at the shelter, began crying and was promptly breastfed by Badi, who expressed feeling like the baby was her own.

Following the incident, authorities took steps to improve conditions at the shelter, appointing five caretakers and planning to construct a new building on government land. The government is also considering new regulations for children's homes.
