Navrongo’s UTAS students and Northern based NGO train northern youth for digital economy

In the Upper East Region of Ghana, students and young professionals are being equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy. This initiative is spearheaded by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in collaboration with Let’s Go North, an NGO focused on empowering Northern youth through practical digital and media skills.

The Digital Media Influence Bootcamp 2025, held in partnership with UTAS, brought together aspiring content creators, entrepreneurs, bloggers, marketers, and media enthusiasts for an immersive day of training and mentorship. The primary objective was to provide participants with hands-on training and immediate, practical tools to help them earn a living, build brands, and navigate the digital world responsibly.

The curriculum covered a range of essential topics, including digital media monetization, content creation and storytelling, blogging, digital marketing, social media management, cybersecurity awareness, personal branding, and combating misinformation through fact-checking. UTAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Luguterah, emphasized the university's evolving focus beyond traditional classroom instruction.

He highlighted the importance of nurturing a generation that utilizes the internet responsibly, equipping students not only with certificates but also with life-changing skills that make them competitive in the global market.

Let’s Go North founder, Ms. Maltiti Sayida Sadick, urged the participants to actively start building their digital careers while still in school, rather than waiting until after graduation. On behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, a speech was delivered, stressing the urgency of bridging the digital divide in the region.

The bootcamp provided participants with the opportunity to engage directly with practitioners from Ghana's digital sector, ensuring they received up-to-date and relevant training. Organizers see the bootcamp as part of a larger effort to cultivate a new generation of responsible digital creators, innovators, and business owners from Northern Ghana.

As internet access and digital skills become increasingly integral to employment and entrepreneurship, UTAS and Let’s Go North aim to expand these training programs to reach a wider audience across the region.
