Nate Erskine-Smith running for Toronto city council in crowded Beaches—East York race

Nate Erskine-Smith, a former Liberal MP and federal housing minister, is stepping up his campaign for a seat on Toronto's city council in the Beaches—East York ward. The Beaches—East York election is one of the most competitive in the city, with 11 candidates vying for the seat. Incumbent Brad Bradford, who is running for mayor instead, leaves the race vacant. Among the other contenders is CTV News journalist Natalie Johnson, who has criticized Erskine-Smith's move on social media, arguing that it is a "backup plan" rather than a genuine desire to serve the community.
