Moderna shares soar 150% after personalised cancer vaccine breakthrough

Moderna's stock price surged nearly 150 percent amid the announcement of a groundbreaking personalised cancer vaccine trial. This promising development could transform cancer treatment by harnessing patients' immune systems to target tumor cells. The experimental vaccine, known as intismeran, was administered alongside the immunotherapy drug Keytruda in a large, late-stage study involving 1,137 high-risk melanoma patients.

The results demonstrated that the combination was more effective at preventing cancer recurrence and delaying its spread compared to Keytruda alone. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel emphasized the significance of this achievement for both patients and medicine. While the exact recurrence rates and overall survival rates are yet to be disclosed, the company anticipates that the treatment could become available to patients as early as 2027.
