LG Display, Samsung Display to showcase next-generation OLED technologies at IMID

LG Display and Samsung Display will exhibit their cutting-edge OLED technologies at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) 2026 in Busan. The three-day event commences on Thursday at BEXCO. LG Display will introduce FLiPP, or FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning, a novel OLED manufacturing technique that dispenses with traditional fine metal masks (FMMs).

Developed after an intensive year of research and development, FLiPP leverages proprietary technology to pattern red, green, and blue (RGB) OLED pixels without the use of metal masks. According to LG Display, FLiPP results in a 1.6 times increase in brightness, a 2.4 times extension in panel lifespan, and a 13 percent reduction in power consumption as opposed to panels fabricated with FMMs under comparable circumstances.

These enhancements stem from a notable 55 percent increase in the aperture ratio, which signifies the proportion of the display area occupied by RGB pixels. FLiPP diverges from conventional FMM manufacturing, where RGB organic materials are evaporated through infinitesimal holes in metal plates.
