(LEAD) Special counsel seeks 10 mln-won fine for ex-President Yoon over perjury

SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- A special counsel team has requested a 10 million-won ($7,150) fine for former President Yoon Suk Yeol during his appellate trial on perjury allegations, according to reports from the Seoul High Court. The request came after a lower court dismissed perjury charges against Yoon in November, stating he had intended to hold a Cabinet meeting regardless of his predecessor Han Duck-soo's suggestion.

The special counsel team, led by Cho Eun-suk, argued that Yoon's plans to convene the meeting were separate from Han's proposal, and they appealed the lower court's decision. In his closing remarks, Yoon maintained that he had planned to hold the meeting before his martial law declaration. The Seoul High Court has scheduled the sentencing for September 16.

Yoon is currently serving a life sentence for leading an insurrection during his brief martial law attempt and has ongoing legal battles following his political downfall.
