Larry David Recalls ‘Dust-Up’ With Trump Lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Says ‘Deal With the Devil’ Ended Their Friendship

Larry David recently opened up about his contentious relationship with former friend and Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz, recounting a particularly infamous incident from 2021 when their friendship seemingly ended. In a recent profile for The Atlantic, David detailed the argument that took place on Martha's Vineyard, where he referred to Dershowitz as "disgusting."

David explained that the lawyer's decision to join Donald Trump's legal team during his 2020 impeachment trial was the catalyst for their falling out. "I don’t know why he’s still thinking and talking about me," David said, reflecting on the intensity of their disagreement. "I have lots of confrontations on my show but rarely in life. And then only if I think I can take them in a fight. Hence the Dershowitz dust-up."

David expressed regret over not reaching out to Dershowitz following the death of his son Elon, despite their strained relationship. "I certainly regret not [reaching out]," David said. "As I said on ‘Curb’ once, ‘I think of nice things. I just don’t act on them.’”

Dershowitz echoed David's sentiments in his own conversation with The Atlantic, stating that they no longer speak and that Larry David "screams and yells at me when he sees me." News of the confrontation first emerged in 2022 when Dershowitz spoke with The New Yorker. At the time, Dershowitz recounted the incident: "I was having lunch with a very radical lawyer who loves me.

So I was having lunch with him and then a number of other people were there. Suddenly, Larry David walks in to buy some groceries. I say, ‘Hey. Hi, Larry,’ and he turns away, and he just walks away. I say, ‘Larry, can’t we at least talk?’ He said, ‘No. You’re disgusting.’”

Despite their ongoing animosity, David expressed a desire to reconnect with Dershowitz, even if he had not followed through on his intentions. "I wish I had reached out," David admitted. "As I said on ‘Curb’ once, ‘I think of nice things. I just don’t act on them.’"
