‘I only wanted to save’: Kajang retiree wins RM1m Bank Rakyat lucky draw

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — A 68-year-old retiree, Aziz Mohamed from Kajang, Selangor, surprised himself when he became the winner of the Millionaire Draw, pocketing a RM1 million prize. Aziz said he had opened a Rizq Plus Investment-i Account to save his surplus funds, and never imagined that this decision would lead to such a significant windfall.

During a press conference following the Raikan Ganjaran #UntukSemua event, Aziz mentioned he intended to keep the prize money in his investment account and planned to enjoy a family holiday with it.

Bank Rakyat chairman, Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak, announced that Aziz is the fifth millionaire to win since the Rizq Plus Investment-i account was introduced back in 2022. He also confirmed that the next Millionaire Draw is scheduled for October. As of now, the Rizq Plus Investment-i account boasts over 250,000 customers, with total investments exceeding RM1 billion.

Aziz was not the only lucky winner on the day; 40-year-old Awang Ahmad Khadar Awang Zainal from Mukah, Sarawak, claimed the grand prize of a Toyota Fortuner sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the Suara Hati 2026 Campaign, which ran from February 19 to April 30. Other winners at the event included four individuals each receiving gold wafers weighing 50 grammes, 30 grammes, and 20 grammes, as well as RM10,000 worth of home furnishings, and 65 winners who received consolation prizes of RM500 credited to their Rizq Plus Investment-i Accounts.
