Home Depot offers nationwide express delivery from local stores

Home Depot announced on Tuesday that it is nationwide expanding its express delivery service, using over 2,300 local stores as fulfillment centers for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. The retailer said nearly every item in its stores is available for delivery in three hours or less for a small flat fee with no subscription or membership required.

Home Depot expects to offer even faster delivery speeds in the coming months, with the majority of deliveries happening in less than an hour. Executive Vice President of Customer Experience and President of Online, Jordan Broggi, stated that many of these deliveries are completed in under an hour. Home Depot promotes itself as the fastest fulfillment home improvement brand, and many retailers are increasingly offering fast delivery from stores through app-connected freelance drivers.

Other retailers, such as Barnes & Noble, Carter’s, and Kohl’s, have also announced availability on the DoorDash marketplace, further expanding the options for fast delivery. DoorDash recently signed a deal with Shopify to offer delivery for small retailers, and Ace Hardware chose Uber Eats for last-mile delivery from its stores.

Home Depot's express delivery service aims to meet customers' expectations for products to be available when and where they need them, providing a fast and reliable solution, according to Broggi. The company has reduced delivery lead times by about 45% in the U.S. over the last 18 months, with two-thirds of in-stock parcel orders arriving same-day or next-day, and 55% of bulky items arriving within two days.

Home Depot can also deliver select appliances to customers the next day in many markets, adapting to changes in its supply chain. The retailer is utilizing automation to speed up product flow at fulfillment centers and meet same-day and next-day commitments, resulting in next-day delivery coverage on key SKUs for nearly 60% of the population.
