General Staff Confirms Strikes on Progress Rocket and Space Center and Aviakor Plant in Russia’s Samara Region

The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that strikes on August 15 inflicted damage on a production workshop at the Progress Rocket and Space Center, as well as an aircraft maintenance workshop at the Aviakor aircraft plant located in Samara, Russia. According to UATV English, the Ukrainian military confirmed that an analysis of additional data validated that a workshop responsible for assembling engines for Soyuz launch vehicles, along with an aircraft maintenance facility belonging to Aviakor, were targeted.

Following the strike on the Progress Rocket and Space Center, a fire spread across an area of approximately 5,000 square meters. The General Staff emphasized that the Progress Rocket and Space Center is a crucial entity within Russia's rocket and space industry, playing a significant role in producing the Soyuz family of launch vehicles.

These vehicles are instrumental in placing spacecraft into orbit and deploying satellite communications systems that serve the interests of the Russian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian military stressed that strikes against such facilities diminish Russia's military and technological capabilities. Social media reports from the previous day had indicated explosions and strikes in Samara, with the Progress Rocket and Space Center reportedly among potential targets.
