Gas truck crashes, catches fire and explodes in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai — On Wednesday, a gas truck overturned and subsequently caught fire, exploding in a fiery blaze near Chiang Mai Beverage in Saraphi district. The incident occurred on the Chiang Mai-Lampang road, prompting the Chiang Mai Provincial Police to shut down the inbound Superhighway and reroute traffic along a railway-side road.

The truck was discovered engulfed in flames with intermittent explosions. Police, fire trucks, and municipal authorities responded to the scene, clearing the area and sealing off the danger zone. Traffic entering Chiang Mai was diverted to a road alongside the railway. Firefighters utilized multiple fire engines and chemical extinguishers to contain the blaze, which was subdued after approximately an hour.

There were no reported injuries at the time of the initial assessment. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, noting that the area frequently experiences incidents and that it had been raining at the time, potentially causing the truck to lose control on the slippery road.
