From Calicut Paragon to Jamavar, 10 Onam sadhyas to try in Dubai
Help yourself to an Onam special this month. The feast, typical of the harvest festival, draws together families and friends and plates up more than a dozen dishes (usually) on a banana leaf. Eaten by hand, the meal is vegetarian and comes with curries such as sambar and kalan; side dishes like thoran and pickles; and dessert like payasam. So, dress to impress, gather your best buddies and head…
Dubai offers a variety of Onam sadhya experiences this month, catering to different preferences and budgets. At Calicut Paragon, a 24-dish vegetarian feast is served on a banana leaf on August 26, with prices starting at Dh52. Mini and grand versions of the sadhya are available, with the latter costing slightly more. Rolla Street, Bur Dubai's Jamavar offers a 21-dish sadhya inspired by the Viceroy’s House in New Delhi, priced between Dh195 and Dh215 depending on whether you prefer vegetarian or non-vegetarian options.
Punjab Grill provides a 33-dish sadhya in an elegant setting, with a lunch package priced at Dh99. Anantara Downtown Dubai Hotel Papillon features a 30-dish sadhya, available on August 21-26 from noon to 3pm, costing Dh39 per person with fine dining and takeaway options. Rasam Dubai offers over 30 traditional dishes, from Dh65 onwards.
Shamiana, located in Taj Jumeirah Lake Towers, serves a beautifully presented sadhya with a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, priced at Dh175 per person.
