FG spent N9.39tn on wage hike, allowances in 31 months — Oyedele

Between June 2023 and December 2025, the Federal Government spent N9.39tn on wage adjustments, minimum wage increases, and other allowances for public workers, according to the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele. This expenditure surpassed the N5.4tn the government received as its share of the N15.8tn in resources mobilized through subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms.

During a media conference on Nigeria’s reform scorecard, Oyedele highlighted that the N9.39tn was spent on wage adjustments, minimum wage increases, and allowances, emphasizing that this amount did not remain idle but was used to meet rising government obligations. He also disclosed that the government generated N20.4tn in incremental resources during this period, which were utilized in meeting these obligations rather than being left unused.
