Dutch boy, 12, seriously injured in fall in Austrian alps

A 12-year-old Dutch boy is severely injured after falling 30 metres down a rocky slope in the Austrian Alps. Local reports indicate the incident occurred on Tuesday at 11am when the boy, accompanied by his father, slipped while traversing the Gänsekragen mountain in the Tirol mountain range. The pair had recently reached the summit of the 2,914m high Gänsekragen at 9.30am and were descending a marked path towards a mountain hut in Winnebachsee when the accident unfolded.

The fall took place approximately 500 metres below the summit as the boy rounded a corner. The 46-year-old father managed to descend the hillside to reach his son, who was unconscious, and promptly raised the alarm. He was airlifted to a clinic in Innsbruck, where he is currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
