DTB pre-tax profit jumps 37pc to KSh9.8B in half-year results

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Group reported a 37% increase in pre-tax profit to KSh9.8 billion for the six months ending June 2026, driven by higher revenue, lending and deposits. Top-line revenue grew by 21%, with net interest income rising 26% and non-interest income up 7% year-over-year. Operating costs climbed 6%, while loan provisions surged 37%, raising the specific provision coverage ratio.

The bank's total assets expanded by over 10% to KSh675 billion, while customer deposits increased 11% to KSh534 billion. Loans and advances grew 14% to KSh328 billion, indicating expanded lending across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The non-performing loan ratio improved to 11.6% from 13% the previous year, and the specific provision coverage ratio climbed to 56.6% from 40.7%.

DTB Group CEO Nasim Devji credited the performance to investments in customer acquisition, digital services, lending, and operational efficiency, emphasizing growth in retail, SME, and corporate segments. DTB Kenya Managing Director Murali Natarajan highlighted the bank's DTB3.0 Business Growth Strategy, which focuses on customer acquisition, digital capabilities, and targeted lending.

By Christmas, DTB plans to open its 100th branch in Kenya, expanding its total network to 163 across East Africa. The bank also extended KSh10 billion in digital loans to retail and SME customers during the half-year period. DTB plans to deploy agentic artificial intelligence solutions to enhance customer experience, service delivery, controls, and compliance.

The Group remains optimistic about maintaining balance sheet and profitability growth in the medium term, supported by its growing customer base and operations across East Africa.
