Down Announce New Album Volume V, Unleash “Blood Oath”: Stream

Down, the iconic sludge metal band, have revealed their upcoming fifth album, Volume V, set to be released on November 20th under Nuclear Blast Records. The anticipation for the new release began when the group unveiled their lead single, "Blood Oath," a heavy and ominous track that showcases the band's signature style with Philip Anselmo's powerful vocals and groovy riffs reminiscent of classic doom metal bands like High on Fire, Trouble, and St. Vitus.

Anselmo, in a recent statement, expressed his excitement about the new album, noting that the creative process was fresh and positive, with a renewed sense of focus and enthusiasm among the band members. Kirk Weinstein, the band's founding guitarist, who returns to the lineup for Volume V after a brief absence, praised the collective effort that went into crafting the album, highlighting Anselmo's exceptional vocal performance and the overall energy that permeated the recording sessions.

The album also features a tribute to the legendary band Mercyful Fate, with a song titled "Merciful Fate" that includes King Diamond and his wife Livia Zita. Additionally, an ode to Ozzy Osbourne, aptly named "Ozz," rounds out the tracklist. Down is currently touring North America with Helmet and Spirit in the Room, and will also participate in Zakk Wylde's Berzerkus festival.
