Build on Positive Lessons of Osun Election, Civil Society Urges Stakeholders

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has urged all stakeholders to learn from the positive aspects of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election while simultaneously addressing the identified weaknesses. The Situation Room noted that Nigeria's democracy should evolve from merely held elections to elections that are credible, transparent, accountable, and trusted by citizens.

The civil society organization deployed observers in all 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State to observe the election. The Situation Room's observations highlighted that voters exercised their franchise without widespread disruption and that election officials and security agencies followed established procedures. They also commended the people of Osun State for their participation in the election and urged all stakeholders to deepen democratic accountability, strengthen institutions, and promote inclusive governance in the post-election period.
