Bhopal Traders Protest Commercial Licence Fee Outside Municipal Office, Demand Immediate Withdrawal— VIDEO

Bhopal traders are protesting the municipal corporation's efforts to seal commercial establishments operating within residential neighborhoods. The traders, representing the Bhopal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, have marched to the Municipal Corporation office, located at the ISBT, and staged a sit-in demonstration against the proposed commercial license fee.

According to the traders, Bhopal is the sole city in Madhya Pradesh where such a tax is being imposed. They argue that the fee is unjust and an undue financial strain on the local business community. During the protest, the traders met with Mayor Malti Rai and the Municipal Corporation Chairman, Kishan Suryavanshi, to present their concerns.

They submitted a memorandum to Mayor Malti Rai prior to the scheduled council meeting in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The traders emphasized that despite their consistent payment of this tax for years, no other city in Madhya Pradesh imposes this additional charge. They questioned why Bhopal's traders are being singled out for such discriminatory treatment.

Bhopal, being the state capital, plays a crucial role in the economic, employment, and revenue aspects of the region. Consequently, imposing an additional financial burden on traders, rather than alleviating their concerns, is deemed unjustifiable. Business organizations have pointed out that if commercial activities can function in other cities without this fee, the rationale behind imposing this separate financial obligation on Bhopal's traders must be thoroughly explained.
