Bayern's Musiala reveals 'neurological disorder' after on-field collapse

Berlin - Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he suffers from a neurological disorder following two on-field collapses in three days. The 23-year-old Germany international fainted just minutes after coming on as a substitute in a pre-season friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday. A similar incident occurred on Saturday during Bayern's home win over RB Leipzig.

Upon receiving medical treatment on Tuesday, Musiala appeared dazed and was helped off the pitch. In a social media post, Musiala disclosed he was diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence caused by a neurological dysfunction. These episodes could lead to the fainting episodes he experienced recently, including against Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Musiala stated that although these episodes may appear frightening, they are currently part of his everyday life. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and revealed he is receiving top medical care. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed Musiala will address the situation further in the near future, stating that they are aware of the issue.

On Saturday, Musiala collapsed during Leipzig's match, requiring medical attention in hot conditions with temperatures exceeding 30C. Musiala had missed the first six months of last season due to a broken ankle sustained at the Club World Cup. He returned to action in the second half of the season and played for Germany at the 2026 World Cup.
