Another upside-down flag incident in Johor, unlicensed premises ordered to close

In Johor, the Iskandar Puteri city council has ordered a firm to close down after discovering that it was illegally operating while displaying the national and state flags upside down. The company, situated within the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters Industrial Park, was found to be in violation of the council's licensing requirements.

The council, in a Facebook post, stated that it issued an order for the premises to cease operations and close down due to its non-compliance. Additionally, the council issued a compound notice to the company for displaying an advertisement signboard without a valid MBIP license.

The incident came to light following a complaint raised by Kota Iskandar assemblyman Pandak Ahmad over the upside-down flags at the premises. The council took swift action and ordered the immediate removal and correct display of the flags. The operation was carried out in collaboration with Pandak Ahmad and the police. During the inspection, 14 workers were present at the premises, including two Malaysians and 12 foreigners.

The foreign workers were subsequently detained and taken to the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters to verify their work permit status.

This marks the second instance within a span of two days involving the display of upside-down Malaysian and Johor flags in the state. On the previous day, police had arrested a 34-year-old Nepali security guard and a 48-year-old woman for the same offense, after discovering the flags were displayed upside down at a factory in Kulai.
