Adams accuses Mkhwanazi and Khumalo of abusing power

Suspension-imposed MP Fadiel Adams claimed that classified crime-intelligence files were discreetly slipped under his parliamentary office door, while pointing fingers at KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for allegedly shielding a suspected criminal named Timmy Marimuthu. Adams made these allegations during his testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, where he denied Mkhwanazi's claim that he illicitly accessed classified crime-intelligence files in 2024.

The suspended MP revealed that he stumbled upon the documents on the floor of his Cape Town parliamentary office during the last week of October. "I presumed that the document had been pushed under my door because I found it on the floor when I opened the door," he stated. Adams argued that it is not unusual for MPs to receive such documents in parliamentary offices when they are not present.

He subsequently utilized the documents to file a criminal complaint against crime-intelligence chief Dumisani Khumalo and others, accusing them of misconduct. However, Adams' testimony took a more incriminating turn when he questioned Mkhwanazi's conduct, specifically her alleged connections to Durban businessman Timmy Marimuthu, whom Adams described as a known criminal.

"He should, perhaps, explain to this commission if he is, in fact, the conduit for Timmy Marimuthu," Adams questioned. Additionally, Adams alleged that Mkhwanazi interfered with Marimuthu's arrest and suggested that Marimuthu's wife, who he claimed held the rank of police colonel and worked in Crime Intelligence, played a role in the case.

Despite his accusations, Adams did not offer any evidence to back up these assertions before the commission.
