2027: INEC has no candidate, favours no party –Prof Amupitan

Professor Josiah Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured all political parties and Nigerians that INEC will remain impartial during the 2027 presidential elections. Speaking at the National Peace Accord ahead of the elections, Amupitan emphasized that the commission has no interest in any candidate's victory or defeat, neither does it favor any political platform.

He urged political parties and candidates to concentrate on addressing issues during the 2027 campaign, cautioning against escalating the election into a violent contest and personal attacks. "Let the 2027 election campaign be a marketplace of ideas, not a theatre of war," Amupitan urged. He further pointed out that Nigerians are more interested in practical solutions to their problems and urged political actors to present clear, measurable programmes.

"Nigerians do not want insults; they want solutions. They deserve to hear clear, concrete, and measurable manifestos," Amupitan stated. He also assured the public that INEC's preparations for the 2027 elections were advancing smoothly. Amupitan noted that the commission was scaling up its operational logistics to manage the vast workforce required for the nationwide exercise.

"I am pleased to report that our preparations for the 2027 elections are progressing with absolute precision. We are scaling our operational logistics to manage a massive nationwide ad hoc workforce of 1.4 million personnel across over 176,000 polling units," he said.
