Wike: Opposition crippled, 2027 will be an easy ride for Tinubu

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that the upcoming 2027 presidential election will be a straightforward victory for President Bola Tinubu due to the weakened state of the opposition. Wike made these remarks on Tuesday in Abuja following the recent Osun governorship election, which was won by Accord candidate Ademola Adeleke for a second term.

Comparing the current political landscape to the 2023 general election, Wike described the latter as a "stressful and uncertain" contest for Tinubu, who had to navigate a challenging environment. He emphasized that the opposition lacked the strength and cohesion needed to challenge the government effectively, stating that they were "crippled and depleted" rather than organized and well-prepared.

Wike commended Tinubu's administration for enabling democratic processes to unfold naturally, without interference, especially in the recent Osun election. He dismissed accusations from opposition parties that they had defeated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) through electoral fraud, questioning their claim to have experienced the full force of federal authority during previous elections.

The minister criticized opposition parties for internal divisions and poor performance in recent governorship polls, attributing their struggles to a lack of support from influential figures like the G5 Governors. He noted that while local variables play a role in gubernatorial contests, national elections present a different challenge altogether.

Wike drew a parallel between the 2019 federal intervention in Rivers State and the current political climate, questioning whether similar tactics had been employed during the Osun election. He concluded that opposition parties should recognize the strength and might of the Tinubu administration and prepare accordingly for the 2027 presidential election.
