What Iran and the US previously agreed to in the memorandum of understanding

Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, presented a list of demands for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, along with a request for the US to adhere to the terms of the memorandum of understanding that expired. The previously agreed-upon points included the cessation of military operations in all regions, a promise not to engage in any military operations against each other, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both nations, refraining from interfering in each other's affairs.

Washington committed to ending its naval blockade of Iranian ports within 30 days of signing the agreement. In return, Iran pledged to do its best to facilitate the unobstructed passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz for a period of 60 days. Economically, the US pledged to collaborate with partners to devise a strategy for Iran's reconstruction and development, comprising a fund of at least $300 billion.

The US also aimed to lift all sanctions, including those imposed by the United Nations, and would issue waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives until such sanctions were lifted. The US would unfreeze Iranian funds and assets previously frozen.

On the nuclear front, Iran committed to not procuring or developing nuclear weapons, while Washington and Tehran agreed to discuss the issue of enrichment concerning Iran's nuclear requirements.
