Western Railway Starts Prabhadevi FOB Expansion Work, Additional Staircase Planned To Improve Passenger Movement

Mumbai's Western Railway is initiating expansion work at Prabhadevi's South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to address overcrowding. The project involves widening the narrow entry and exit, demolishing the adjacent toilet block with necessary consent from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and constructing an additional staircase.

Inspections by DRM, Pankaj Singh, and officials from the BMC and Western Railway have led to this decision. Excavation for the staircase has begun, with underground utilities such as water pipelines and electrical cables being identified. Steel structural members are being manufactured at the Dadar Workshop. The railway plans to provide two toilets to nearby residents, while the BMC is asked to make additional toilet arrangements.

There are potential plans to add four more toilets through existing arrangements. A joint coordination meeting on August 18 discussed a phased plan to improve passenger circulation, including a proposal for a 12-metre-wide FOB with staircase and lift arrangements. The proposal, initially rejected by the BMC, has now received a positive response.

Western Railway and BMC will jointly identify a suitable location for the proposed FOB, considering factors like land availability and passenger convenience. Police and traffic authorities will enforce parking restrictions near the FOB landing to enhance safety and passenger circulation.
