Vihiga Cranes, Lugari Progressive crowned Safaricom Chapa Dimba western region champions

Vihiga Cranes and Lugari Progressive claimed victory as champions of the fifth edition of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Western Region football tournament, following thrilling finals held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, Bungoma County. The boys' title went to Vihiga Cranes after a nail-biting 1-0 win over Busia's Musokoto Secondary School in the final.

Tonny Omondi scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute, converting a superb corner delivered by Luke Ramsey. The Cranes' head coach, Francis Muhambe, expressed his gratitude towards God and Safaricom for organizing such an impressive tournament. He emphasized that winning the regional title with Vihiga Cranes was a special achievement for him. The focus now shifts to the national finals.

In the girls' category, Lugari Progressive emerged victorious, defeating Busia's Chakol Girls 5-4 on penalties after the match ended goalless in normal time. Individual awards were shared among both finalists. The boys' Top Scorer award was jointly won by Vihiga Cranes' Mellon Omondi and Tonny Omondi, alongside Musokoto's Rom Okitwi, Frankline Paul, and Calvin Masai.

Musokoto's Elvis Ogiro was named the boys' MVP, while Chakol Girls' Hanifa Mashasha claimed the girls' equivalent. Best Goalkeeper honors were awarded to Musokoto's Nabo Ochieng and Lugari Progressive's Shamsy Pachanga. As the Western Region finals concluded, the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament progresses to the Central Region, where the final round of regional competitions will take place on August 29 and 30 at Wang'uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County. The teams will face their next challenges on the road to the national title.
