Umno vice-president: Party, BN committed to see through partnership in government until end of term

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized that the party and Barisan Nasional (BN) remain committed to fulfilling their roles and responsibilities in the Federal Government until the conclusion of the ongoing parliamentary term. He clarified that BN's dedication and determination to ensure the success of its initiatives are not subject to arbitrary withdrawal or change of mind.

"Moreover, BN's agreement and commitment to jointly ensure the success of the formation of the Federal Government were made with the awareness that it was necessary to provide political stability in the country," he stated in a statement. As Defence Minister, Mohamed Khaled also pointed out that despite BN's contention against Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the recent state elections, the party did not retract its commitment following the结果 in Sabah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan.

He explained that differences in administration at the state level do not hinder effective cooperation at the Federal level, which is a distinctive characteristic of Malaysia. Mohamed Khaled mentioned that BN perceives the 16th General Election (GE16) as a critical juncture or decision to be addressed at the appropriate time, rather than altering its existing commitment to collaboration with PH at the Federal level.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated yesterday, during his address at the 2026 PKR National Congress, the party's intention to continue cooperating with BN and Umno at the Federal level to guarantee political stability and the well-being of the populace.
