Two‑minute Genting goldsmith heist: Suspects armed with axes escape in BMW with RM1.74m haul

Three masked men wearing caps and jackets invaded a goldsmith shop at Genting Highlands' SkyAvenue mall, stealing a total of 81 pieces of jewelry weighing 2.5 kilograms and worth RM1.74 million. The robbery occurred within two minutes, ending around 11.41am on August 18. Police received a report at 11.39am from a private security guard.

Two employees - a man and a woman - were present in the shop during the heist, while a third female worker was taking a break outside. No customers were inside, and no security guards were stationed on duty. Closed-circuit television footage revealed the suspects using a luxurious BMW vehicle registered to a man from Ampang, Selangor.

Police immediately launched an operation called Op Tutup, which lasted until 4.15pm. Investigations are ongoing to locate the three suspects, with assistance sought from the public. The Criminal Investigation Department's forensics division and Pahang contingent CID conducted an examination of the crime scene.
