Two arrested over alleged galamsey activities in Tanoso

Two people have been arrested in connection with alleged involvement in illegal mining activities in Tanoso, Ahafo Region. The suspects are Nana Amoako Atta, known as Aseda Ben, and Alhassan Adamu, the Afrisipa Krom Youth Chairman of the Tanoso Traditional Council. Their arrest is reportedly linked to illegal mining at Adengo/Ponwaakrom and areas affected by mining operations that have damaged farmlands, forests, and water bodies.

Police seized a Kia vehicle, registration number BA-841-14, believed to be linked to illegal mining activities. The arrests come amid growing concern over the environmental impact of galamsey, including the destruction of farmlands, forests, and pollution of water bodies. Authorities will conduct further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged activities and determine if the suspects will face charges.

The case also highlights the role of community members in either facilitating or resisting illegal mining activities.
