Trump threatens to bomb Oman, tells Iran to surrender

On Monday, US President Trump threatened to bomb Oman and urged Iran to surrender, as negotiations between the two nations remained stalled. During a phone interview with Fox News, Trump suggested Iran should raise a white flag of surrender to end the conflict, which he claimed had begun on July 7. However, Iran's foreign ministry stated that the military operations had been suspended a week earlier.

The interim deal signed in June called for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, but the agreement quickly fell apart. Trump declared the deal over on July 7, while Iran's foreign ministry claimed the suspension occurred the following week.

The memorandum of understanding required Iran and the US to negotiate a final deal within 60 days, with the possibility of extension by mutual consent. Monday marked the 60-day anniversary of the MOU.

Separately, Oman and Iran have been engaged in talks to restore commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait, which once carried 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, has become a point of contention since the US and Israel attacked Iran in late February. Trump warned that if Oman interferes with the talks, the US would "bomb the s**t out of them."

Despite the ongoing conflict, Trump emphasized that midterms were not influencing his strategy on Iran. He reiterated his stance that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons, a key rationale for the war.
