Third set of human remains uncovered at property in Smiths Falls, Ont.: police

Smiths Falls authorities have discovered a third set of human remains at a property located southwest of Ottawa, according to provincial police. The remains belong to Lawrence Bertrim, a Smiths Falls resident who vanished in 2022 at the age of 42. The cause of Bertrim's death remains unknown.

In October 2025, police found the remains of Robbie Thomson, another missing person from the same property. Four individuals were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with Thomson's demise. In July, investigators uncovered the remains of Robert Lambert, a 75-year-old man from Montague Township who had been missing since July 2018.

The discovery of Bertrim's remains marks a significant breakthrough, but police are still seeking answers regarding his death. OPP Det. Insp. Jennifer Patton acknowledged the public's interest in the case and requested patience as they continue their investigation.
