“The type of football they play has been very attractive” – Abdul Mumin on Girona move

Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has shared his reasons for joining Spanish club Girona, expressing enthusiasm about the team's attractive style of play and ambitious long-term objectives. The 28-year-old centre-back completed a free transfer from LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano and has signed a three-year contract at the Catalan club.

Mumin emphasized Girona's football philosophy and recent development as significant factors in his decision. He commended the team's ability to play attractive football in recent years, stating, "The main thing that attracted me to Girona, I think, is the club itself. Girona, I think, is a club with a lot of history and over the past years, the type of football they play has been very attractive."

The defender also highlighted the club's ambitious project as a potential environment for players seeking to improve their careers, saying, "I believe that for all footballers that want to improve in their professional career, it s a project that they will look up to."

Mumin brings four years of experience in Spanish football to Girona, having previously played for Rayo Vallecano, FC Nordsjælland, and Vitória Guimarães. His move follows an important period with the Ghana national team, where he made his senior debut in June 2024 and was part of the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Defensively robust and physically imposing, Mumin's addition could provide Girona with much-needed experience, stability, and competition in the backline as they prepare for the upcoming season. For Mumin, the transfer marks a significant step in his career, allowing him to develop within a club that aligns with his aspirations for modern football.
