Thai mother devastated after daughter dies mysteriously in South Korea

Kamphaeng Phet — An emotionally devastated Thai mother is grappling with the tragic loss of her 34-year-old daughter, who worked as a traditional massage therapist in South Korea for seven years. The family, hailing from Kamphaeng Phet province, lacks the financial means to transport her body back to Thailand for a proper funeral, leaving them to rely on the public for assistance.

Her identity, known as Ms. Piyawan or Pla, remains undisclosed. The case gained attention via numerous Facebook pages urging the woman's relatives to contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul. A community leader in Trai Trueng subdistrict identified her and promptly reached out to the press. Pla's aged mother, Lam Yai, expressed her profound grief, sharing that her daughter had traveled to South Korea seven years ago to pursue a traditional massage career.

Their last conversation occurred on August 8, when Pla mentioned experiencing unusually heavy menstrual bleeding; her mother had advised her to purchase painkillers. No pre-existing medical conditions were known. The family, who earn their living through general labor, is financially struggling and is unable to cover the estimated costs of transporting her body back to Thailand, which range between 100,000 and 200,000 baht.

The family's appeal for help has been met with various offers, with the primary obstacle being the exorbitant costs involved. Once enough funds are raised to cover the expenses, the account will be closed.
