Sowore mocks peace accord, cites Osun deaths despite similar pact

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore dismissed the National Peace Accord as a mere ritual, citing the deaths of 50 people in Osun State's August 15 governorship election as proof. Sowore participated in the peace accord, which is expected to be signed by presidential and governorship candidates for the 2027 elections, while expressing little faith in the process.

He challenged the characterization of the Osun election as peaceful, pointing to the unresolved death toll. Sowore also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission's handling of the election results, stating that the commission had yet to complete uploading all polling unit results three days after the election. He argued that the peace accord was a ceremonial opportunity for candidates to socialize, rather than a practical solution to prevent political violence.
