Sharon Otieno’s murder: Obado’s family urges the court to be lenient on him

The family of former Migori County Governor Zachariah Okoth Obado is requesting leniency in his sentencing for the murder of Sharon Otieno. Obado's brother, Daudi Okoth, claims that the former governor is a vital part of the family, and his support extends to other relatives and individuals. The pre-sentence report highlights that Obado has not only been providing financial assistance but also support to other family members and individuals.

The family is concerned about Obado's age and health, urging the court to consider these factors when determining his sentence. Although Obado denies committing the crime and has been convicted, he respects the court's decision. The report states that Obado believes other people are responsible for his situation, attributing it to political intrigues that may have taken advantage of the victim and their relationship.

The former governor maintains his innocence, stating that he does not take responsibility for the murder and blames his co-accused. The assistant director of probation, Benard Musitia, notes that while Obado expresses remorse over the brutal murder, they do not find him remorseful. The relationship between Obado and his co-accused was purely work-related during his time at the County Government of Migori, and thus, remorse was not established.
