Shams Charania defends Lakers reporting, calls claims from Jeanie Buss’ lawyer ‘inaccurate’

Shams Charania remains supportive of his reporting despite attorney Jeanie Buss' claims that he inaccurately reported all six Buss siblings voted to sell the Lakers' 17.8% stake. On Monday, Charania reported that the Buss family voted to sell its remaining 17.8% stake, ending Jeanie Buss' governorship which required a minimum 15% ownership.

However, Jeanie Buss disputes the legitimacy of the vote under the Buss family trust. ESPN initially suggested all siblings voted, but later clarified Jeanie Buss did not participate. Buss' lawyer blasted Charania's reporting, alleging it was a "malicious purpose of doing harm to the Los Angeles Lakers." Charania maintains his reporting was accurate, stating only five siblings voted to sell, not six.

He explained the five siblings believed they had the majority 5-1 vote and tag-along provision to proceed. Charania believes Buss holds veto power and would challenge any framing she would no longer remain Lakers governor.
