Rodri joins La Liga champions Barcelona from Manchester City

Barcelona announced on Tuesday the signing of Spain's World Cup-winning captain Rodri from Premier League side Manchester City. The 30-year-old will join the La Liga champions on a deal that runs until 2030, concluding a long-standing transfer saga. Reports suggest that the transfer, valued at around 75 million euros, was completed in a deal between Barca and Man City.

Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, arrived in Barcelona the day after the deal was agreed upon to finalize the personal terms. Despite struggling with injuries over the past two seasons, Rodri had been instrumental in Spain's successful World Cup campaign last month. He was a key player under Pep Guardiola at City, contributing to their 2023 Champions League victory and four Premier League titles, among 12 major trophies.

Rodri expressed his gratitude in a statement on City's website, stating that he is leaving the club with a profound sense of pride and a treasure trove of unforgettable memories. In total, Rodri becomes Barcelona's third significant addition this summer, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund.
