Remains of 3rd missing person found on rural Ontario property: OPP

The human remains of a third missing individual have been discovered on a rural Ontario property, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The remains belong to 42-year-old Lawrence Bertrim, who went missing from downtown Smiths Falls on September 30, 2022. Police located Bertrim's remains on August 6 on a property situated on Kelly Jordan Road. The cause of death has yet to be determined. This discovery follows the finding of two other sets of remains on the same property within the past 10 months.

Robert Lambert, a 75-year-old man from Montague Township, was found deceased on the same Kelly Jordan Road property in November 2018. His remains were discovered shortly after the province announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his disappearance. The reward remains active for Bertrim's case as well.

The first set of remains was found last year when police executed a search warrant on October 30, resulting in the identification of Robbie Thomson, who had been missing since October 2023. Four individuals have since been arrested and charged in connection with Thomson's death, but no charges or arrests have been made regarding Lambert or Bertrim's cases.

The Lanark County OPP and Smiths Falls Police Service, under the OPP's criminal investigation branch, continue to investigate the cases. Law enforcement is also maintaining an increased presence on Kelly Jordan Road as part of this ongoing investigation.
