Police nab 3 suspected kidnappers, rescue victim in Edo

In Edo State, law enforcement has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery, according to a report from the Edo State Police Command. Commissioner Patrick Daaor announced the arrests on Tuesday in Benin City, emphasizing that the suspects were linked to a notorious criminal organization.

The two suspects, Mohammed Hamisu, 22, and Saidu Bebe, 23, were apprehended by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following intelligence reports. On June 29, 2026, the operatives intercepted the duo at Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area, recovering two firearms and two magazines. Subsequently, on August 12, 2026, the suspects led authorities to a forest bordering Edo and Delta states, where additional weapons and ammunition were seized.

Ongoing efforts are underway to capture the remaining members of the syndicate and recover more illicit equipment.

Additionally, the police have rescued a female victim, Elizabeth William, who was held captive by a suspected kidnapper allegedly affiliated with the Aiye secret cult. The victim, residing in Uwelu Quarters, Benin City, connected with the suspect via the TikTok platform and agreed to meet him for a romantic date, which ultimately resulted in her abduction. Police sources reveal that the suspect demanded a ransom of N500,000 for her release.
