Pakistan assumes presidency of UN Conference on Disarmament

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has officially taken on the role of President for the United Nations Conference on Disarmament (CD) in Geneva, starting Monday. Ambassador Tahir Hussain Andrabi, representing Pakistan, will preside over the meetings of the CD during its final Presidency of the 2026 session. Pakistan's Presidency marks the culmination of negotiations on the Annual Report of the CD and the corresponding resolution in the UN General Assembly's First Committee.

The CD serves as the world's sole multilateral forum for disarmament and arms control treaty negotiations. The 65 member states, including nuclear weapons states, will discuss critical matters like ending the nuclear arms race, preventing nuclear war, and stopping the weaponization of outer space. Pakistan's Presidency reinforces its diplomatic leadership and commitment to multilateral arms control and disarmament diplomacy.
