NFL analyst says Drew Allar won’t get chance to start for Steelers

According to former NFL offensive lineman and current FOX analyst Geoff Schwartz, Drew Allar is unlikely to secure a starting position with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. During an interview with FOX Sports Radio, Schwartz stated, "Drew Allar is unlikely to get a chance to be good in the NFL because he’s not going to get an opportunity to play."

Allar, who has impressed in his first preseason games, is projected to be the third-string quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Will Howard. With Aaron Rodgers established as the starter and Mason Rudolph vying for the backup role, Allar's chances of becoming the Steelers' franchise quarterback appear slim. The lack of playing time during the preseason could further diminish his prospects, as Schwartz believes the Steelers might draft a quarterback in 2027.

The upcoming 2027 draft class is anticipated to be filled with highly-talented quarterbacks, including Arch Manning, Dante Moore, and LaNorris Sellers, while the 2026 class did not live up to expectations. Allar will have the opportunity to prove his worth in the upcoming preseason games against the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Atlanta Falcons.
