NDC Youth Wing Calls For Stronger Action Against Illegal Mining

The Western Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its support for the government's efforts to combat illegal mining and restore degraded natural resources in the Western Region of Ghana. At the conclusion of their 2nd Quadrennial Regional Youth Conference, held at Takoradi Technical University, the youth wing emphasized that the Petroleum Hub Project, when fully implemented, could transform the region into a major industrial and logistics hub, generate thousands of jobs for young people, and attract private-sector investment.

The conference highlighted the importance of stricter enforcement of mining and environmental laws to protect water bodies, forests, and agricultural lands, and stressed that the fight against illegal mining must be carried out impartially and professionally. The wing also called for greater collaboration between traditional authorities, local governments, youth groups, religious organizations, and civil society to safeguard natural resources.

In addition, the youth wing endorsed the Petroleum Hub Project, advocating for its accelerated implementation to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Western Region and beyond. They called for the expansion of technical and vocational training programs to prepare young people for the employment opportunities the project would generate.
