The National Board for Technical Education has granted approval for 23 new programs at Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, located in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. This brings the total number of programs offered by the institution to 44, according to a statement obtained from the institution's media unit in Uyo on Tuesday.

The approval was contained in a letter signed by Ayo Aroge, the Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes, on behalf of the Executive Secretary. The new programs, which will initially run for two years, are set to begin in the 2026/2027 academic session. However, the statement noted that full accreditation of these programs will be finalized following another quality assurance visit by the end of September 2028.

The newly accredited programs encompass a diverse range of fields, including Surveying & Geo-informatics, Estate Management and Valuation, Building Technology, Petroleum Marketing & Business Studies, Crime Management, Artificial Intelligence, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Water Resources Engineering Technology, and Renewable Energy Engineering Technology.

Additionally, the institutions will offer HND programs in various fields such as SLT (Chemistry Option), SLT (Biochemistry Option), SLT (Microbiology Option), SLT (Physics with Electronics Option), SLT (Environmental Biology Option), Cyber Security and Data Protection, Electrical Electronics Engineering Technology (Power & Machine Option), Electronics/Telecommunication Option, Instrumentation and Control Option, Computer Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Business Administration & Management, and Accountancy.
