Natembeya recounts narrowly escaping Homa Bay attack after car tyre was deflated

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka recounted narrowly escaping an armed attack during a political event in Homa Bay. Wamboka cautioned that unfair law application could lead to retaliatory violence. Natembeya detailed that their vehicle was targeted as they entered Homa Bay, with one tyre deflated.

Seeking refuge at an ECD center upon realizing their car couldn't proceed, they were attacked by armed youths on motorcycles. Natembeya recounted jumping over a fence and fleeing on foot, with the situation becoming more dangerous due to the area's illumination. Security officers were instructed not to use firearms to avoid escalating the situation.

The governor and Wamboka emphasized the need for fairness in law enforcement, warning that selective enforcement could undermine public trust. Wamboka claimed that remaining calm during the incident was due to respect for the rule of law, but cautioned that the experience might change their approach to future political engagements, urging authorities to ensure equal application of the law to avoid a "rule of the jungle."
