Maharashtra Cabinet Approves TReDS Platform To Facilitate Timely Payments To MSME Contractors

Mumbai, August 18, 2026 - The Maharashtra Cabinet, under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the implementation of the Trade Receivables Electronic Discounting System (TReDS) within the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure prompt payments to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and contractors. The TReDS platform aims to provide MSME contractors with access to finance at competitive rates based on their outstanding receivables.

Furthermore, the government has also approved provisions for interest payments in instances where payments are delayed. The interest rate will be determined by an Implementation and Monitoring Committee led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the PWD. This decision addresses the mounting concerns among contractors who staged a protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, demanding that their pending dues be cleared.

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar voiced his support for the contractors during the protest and criticized the government for the delay in clearing their bills, which amounted to approximately Rs 85,000–90,000 crore.
