Likoni man charged with cruelty to his three-year-old girl

A 25-year-old man from Likoni has been charged with assaulting his three-year-old daughter, according to a report from Mombasa Court. During his appearance before Senior Principal Magistrate Erick Wambo, Caleb Omondi faced a single count of cruelty to a child, in violation of Kenya's Children Act of 2022. The court heard that Omondi, as the child's guardian, intentionally abused and mistreated the minor, resulting in severe injuries.

The incident allegedly took place in the Shonda area of Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa County, between July 19th and August 15th, 2026. Neighbors heard cries emanating from the home and discovered the child with visible injuries on her legs, hands, and body. They promptly arrested Omondi and handed him over to local law enforcement.

The young girl was rushed to a hospital for treatment and subsequently placed in a rescue center. Omondi pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting Prosecution Counsel Yassir Mohammed to oppose the immediate release of the suspect on bond. The court was requested to order a pre-bail report to consider the gravity of the offence when deciding on bail terms.

Magistrate Wambo ordered the probation department to prepare the pre-bail report, and the case will be revisited on September 1st, 2026.
